Overnight, we sailed from Hilo to Honolulu arriving around 8:00. No excursion was booked today so we were ion no hurry to disembark. When we left the ship, the Matutes joined us on the Waikiki Trolley which is the local Hop On, Hop Off bus line. Our double decker stopped at the terminal. I am sure it does this as a convenience to cruise ship passengers. It makes good business sense, too. The weather was warm with a few light showers moving through the area. The seats on the top deck were wet but we managed to dry them slightly and get the best views. ​

Our route on the red line took us through the downtown area (I think) and along the beach until we reached the Galleria. Transferring to the green line, we drove along Waikiki Beach then past the Honolulu Zoo and the Diamond Head surf lookout until we reached the Diamond Crater. Turning around, we drove through various neighborhoods and commercial areas until we were back at the Galleria. We did not get off of the bus at any of these locations primarily because we were trying to get oriented to Honolulu. Ann and I thought about climbing Diamond Head, but it was a long trek with lots of people. It was more comfortable on the bus. ​

When we got off of the bus at the Galleria we were hungry. Lynne searched for restaurants with her phone and we settled on Heavenly which was a short walk away. It felt strange going to a restaurant after having all of our meals on the ship for the last month. Heavenly serves only locally produced and raised ingredients. I had Shinsato pork and mixed vegetables, Juan had organic veggie and beans loco moco while Ann and Lynne had something lighter. We enjoyed Maui Big Wave IPA and other local beers. ​

After lunch we split up. Ann and I took a walk along Waikiki Beach to dip our toes in the water and to watch all of the beach activity. There were lots of people there and almost all of them were a lot younger then us. ​

I used Google Maps to get us to Ilikai Hotel stop for the red line. Coincidently, the Matutes were on the same bus that we caught. Our route took us past Honolulu Coffee, Honolulu Museum of Art, Iolani Palace, Foster Botanical Gardens, Izumo Taisha, China Town, King Kamehameha Statue and finally to Aloha Tower and the cruise terminal. It was a very interesting circuit and showed me some of the points of interest that I had read about but never seen. ​

Back on the ship, we dropped in on the Bensons to see how Ellen was doing with her illness. She and Ann had fun discussing all of the changes in Honolulu since they went to summer school there in the early 60's. At dinner, we celebrated John Benson's birthday. ​

Entertainment tonight, Drums of Polynesia, started at 9:30 and was too late for us.
